My reflection for term 1

Walt: reflect on my learning.

My reflections for term 1

This week we had to do three tests. We had tests on number and measurement, geometry and  statistics and also reading.

On Tuesday I had a reading test. I got a 3B on my reading which was awesome because I’m improving. I know the different language used in poetry and figurative speech and make use of previous knowledge. Next term I will have to work on finding and retrieving information. I will work on my gaps by doing my homework and reading more books to help me understand why the author wrote the story.

After the reading test we did the number and measurement test. In this test I got a 4B which means I can go to the green group for maths. I did really well with using equations to represent practical situations and continue the order of the pattern and write the rule. I have to work to devise a strategy to solve a whole number problem and to work on making sensible statements about a statistical investigations. I will try and do homework to get better.

Today we  did a test in geometry and statistics. I got a 3B and I was so proud of myself because I thought that I forgot how to do geometry and statistics but when it came to the test I remembered everything. I did really well on describing the features of 2D and 3D objects using the language of geometry and designing and making pattern using translation, reflection and rotation. In geometry and statistics I have to work on  grid references. I will improve by trying my best with the homework and getting help from others.

For term two my goal is to get above national standards and try to get 4A.

Toy

Walt: make a toy.

The first thing I did to make my toy was to plan before making it because without it you wouldn’t know what to do. When I started planning my toy I thought of my own ways to make it different. We were learning how to use mechanism to make our toy work. I had to use a mechanism to make my toy move. I used wheels and axles for my toy because I was making a toy car and it was so hard to make because you had to get all the staff you need for your toy. Getting the materials was kind of hard because we didn’t exactly have the materials we need like a stick. The difficult bit was when I had to redo the planning. When I finished I had to go and take it to the library and put it next to the wall. After the people that had went and put their toys in the library we told Mr Hendriks that we were ready for him to choose the three top toy that had the correct mechanism. The names of the kids are Mikayla, Britney and Matthew because they had a great idea. Next I would like to to learn how to do a toy on screw and wedges.

Technology

Walt: make food around the world

I really enjoyed food technology because every monday we make different cultural food. We had to make chop suey because we were heading to Tonga. I also enjoyed making chop suey because you had to mix lots of other recipes. I didn’t like making pesupo because it tasted funny to me that is why I don’t like it. Pesupo is kind of tricky to make also because you have to combined staff really quick. At home I tried making rich chocolate tarts because I told my family that it tasted so nice and that they had to try it out. When they tasted the rice chocolate tart they wanted me to make more. Next time I would love to make an Afghanistan culture food that they make for a celebration or someones birthday.

Decomposition

Walt: Use decomposition to solve addition and subtraction.

This week I've learnt how to do decomposition. Decomposition is really interesting because I never knew that it would be so easy. Using subtraction and addition with decomposition is really fast because you get to finish really fast instead of waiting until you figure out the answer. Next I would like to learn negative numbers and positive numbers.

Letter to Mrs Robinson

Dear Mrs Robinson

Thank you for teaching us how to punch and kick like a taekwon-do champion.

I really enjoyed your lessons and what you had taught us in taekwon-do. The taekwon-do move that I really enjoyed was the scissors kick. I also enjoyed the snap kick because it was simple and fast. I really enjoyed kicking and punching our hardest on the pad. All of our lessons we had I really enjoyed them all.

I learnt some moves that I never did before in my life, so thank you for showing me new moves that I never thought of before. I also learnt how to count up to ten in Korean. I really loved that you taught us the tenets of taekwon-do. Using the tenets of taekwon-do showed me how to control myself.

I could use the tenets of taekwon-do to control myself when I need it or I could use the other tenets so that I know what to do when I am in a difficult situation. When I am in a difficult situation and someone tries to grab me I could use the release and self defence that you taught us in taekwon-do. I could use a lot of what I learnt and use them in class but not the kick and punch bit.

Next I will be working on Indomitable spirit because I mostly look down on myself but not my friend. When I find out how to beat it and figure out how to do it I’ll be really good at it.

I really enjoyed your lessons and hope to see you in the further future.

Your sincerely
Mary
