At Tamaki college I had to do a collage with heaps of my pictures that I had sketched in photo shop. I thought that it was really hard because you had to go through a really long process of making and putting your picture that your going to sketch on and put it as your background. It was really fun and cool because we had a lot of fun with the teacher over there. She was a fun teacher to do sketching with.
I am a Year 8 student at Glen Innes School in Auckland, NZ. I am in Room 11 and my teacher is Mrs Ramkolowan.

Sad day for everyone
On 28 August Cantik died, she had been suffering from cancer and arthritis. It was so sad for everyone because she had been given euthanasia so that she doesn't die on her own in a lot of pain.
A long time ago in 1994 Wellington Zoo received a Sumatran tiger from Burger's Zoo in the Netherlands. Her name was Cantik. Cantik lived for more than 20 years. People believed that Sumatran tigers only live in the wild until they reached the age 10. But Cantik lived until she was 21 years old.
If the Wellington Zoo had two females they would send one of the females to another zoo that has a male Sumatran tiger so that they could breed. When Sumatran tigers breed they don’t really become extinct because the more cubs they have, the more Sumatrans tigers they get. They are also the smallest five subspecies. The tigers are really amazing at swimming but on land they chase their prey into the water where they can’t get away and are hopeless. There are only three to four hundred Sumatran tigers left in the wild.
I think that Cantik should receive euthanasia because they die peacefully. They could announce that one of Cantik children are their in her place and that it’s really good because she’s not all gone her daughter or son has a little bit of her in him/her. I will miss her so much but she is in a better place where she don’t need to go threw all that pain and dieing on her own.
I think that Cantik would live in peace and she will be really happy because she didn’t really want to go threw all that to die on her own.

Writing fractions in lowest terms
Walt: Write fractions in the lowest terms.
I know how to write fractions in their lowest terms because I know my timetables very well. My strategy to figuring out what's a the simplest form to 5/10 I would use my five times tables to figure out the answer because 5 divide by 5 equals one, so you put one in the numerator so 5 divide by 10 equals two.then you put your answer to that goes in the denominator so all that equals to ⅕. I thought it was challenging because I tried to beat my time but I didn’t. I only beat my score and my medals. You could make it more hard if you add tricky fractions in the game that what makes me think. Next I would like to improve my speed at forming the fractions lowest forms.
My inspirational person
Walt: use our research to write an essay on an inspiring person.
My inspirational person is Edmund Hillary. Edmund Hillary inspires me because he understands people and they understand him but he never showed off when he became a celebrity.
I admired him because he is really modest. He used his modest abilities but combined it with his determination to climb Mount Everest but he never wanted to change his mind. When he made it to the top he didn’t really brag about it but he was really proud that he never changed his mind. I am inspired by his determination.
Edmund Hillary also understands people. He has been helping the people since 1961 to make the first Sherpa school. The Himalayans Trust was born then. If it wasn't for Edmund Hillary the trust and the school would had never been built in the Khumjung Village. That is the reason the people in the Khumjung Village trust Edmund Hillary.
He also brought out the best in his family and friends. Sir Edmund Hillary was one of the best “stay focused persons.” He never like to be off track. If he wanted to do something he won't stop and do something else he would keep going until that is done and then move on.
I picked Sir Edmund Hillary because he is like me I'm modest. But if I am inspired by something I am determined for that thing makes me want to get it. Also I understand people and they understand me.

Maths
Walt: reflection on my basic facts.
In stage 7 for basic facts I got 48% because I was struggling on fraction, decimals and percentages and I really didn’t know some of the maths question. Doing fraction, decimals and percentages are really challenging. They are challenging because when it shows the fraction and you have to turn it into a percentage. I thought that it will be puzzling on the other work on the stage 7 work but the only puzzling bit was the percentage and that. My next aim is to work hard on my percentage, fraction and decimals. Next time I will get them all right and I might get close to an 80% or a 90% so I will be so proud.
Basketball
Walt: write rap/poem
Dribble, Dribble down the court
Make sure you don’t get hit
just make sure you get that swish,
bouncing and bouncing till you
there get the three pointer and we’re
nearly there, protect the ball don’t
let go you're going to give the ball
to the other team get the ball, and
shoot, Slam dunk the ball goes through
everyone’s happy run, run get
another one,
Jump stop don’t stop keep going it’s
34-4 were nearly there and that’s
the score, game times going down
it’s on 10 seconds, I have to get this in to
win if I don’t get it, it’s game over and I'm let down
I could do it nothing to it so shoot,
I get it in another three pointer the crowd
goes wild like the animals are at the zoo,
dribble through the legs it goes
and out the other side we go,
come on guys we can do it try your
best and do it, we could move to the
grove and we could do anything, so
move, move move
It’s all over we all go home
we won we won it’s the greatest day
ever cause we won we
did our bounces and our pass
it’s all better cause
we did it and we own it,

Fraction of a set
In this game I have to find the correct fraction for the square cookies. I found easy was that the square cookies because all you need to do is count all of the cookies and then count the square that’s what made it easy for me. I thought it was difficult when I started because I didn’t know what to do. Next I would like to learn is turning my fraction into a decimal.

Rheumatic fever
Walt: respond to the presentation give by the public health dept.
On 6 August Glen Innes school had a special assembly with the public health nurse and three of the warriors. Elizabeth, our school nurse came with some other health nurses to talk to us about Rheumatic fever. Elizabeth was explaining that if we have a sore throat that we would have to go with her or Kirsty to do a throat swab. For example Kirsty was the nurse and Elizabeth was the teacher and the three warriors were the students. “Has anyone got a sore throat today” said Elisabeth. Sione raised his hand “come on” said Kirsty “I’ll just do a swab”. Sione didn’t want to so we all had to say ahh with Sione. After that Elizabeth said that if you don’t get your throat checked and don’t look after your skin it could lead to Rheumatic fever.
beil started talking about Rheumatic fever. Awen explained that if we ever have a sore throat tell someone because it could lead to serious problems. He told us a story about how he got a heart problem. Awen was telling us when he was 9 years old he had a sore throat on a sport day but he didn't want to stay off because he loves sports and he wanted to hang out with his friends. So later he was trying to get out of bed, but he couldn't. He was completely stiff. After seeing the doctor he found out that he had a little hole in his heart. His illness didn't stop him from playing sports.
The message for rheumatic fever is to tell your parents that you have a sore throat before it gets worst. I know I will.

Raggle-taggle Chook
Walt: retell a story
One sunny afternoon Robin and her parents went outside. When they went outside there was a lot of mess after the flood come. After the flood vanished Robin saw a hopeless chook that was straggled in a lot of rubbish and it was in mud. Robin ran to help the poor chook. When Robin went to help it the chook had a little bit of feathers were missing on its left side of its body, so she decided to keep it.
Mum and dad didn't like the chook because it was all filthy. Dad said that it is half dead and you should chop the chooks head off. Mum said that it is not going to be staying with us but Robin did the opposite to what her parents said. She took chook into the back yard and started making holes in the garden for the chook. So mum and dad said if she was going to keep chook it’s her responsibility to feed it and look after it.
Dad and mum were getting use to chook and then they got too attached to chook and started loving her like it was their own pet. The next day Robin went looking for chook when Robin found chook Robin saw five brown eggs behind her. Robin reached behind chook and grabbed them. When Robin got home, chook ruined Mr Dick’s new peas. Mum told Robin that it is her pet and that she has to be responsible and talk to him. So Robin apologized but Mr Dick didn't really care so Robin gave him two of chook’s brown eggs.

Money wise
Walt: write a response to the talk by Evan.
I thought that Evan was really lovely. At first I thought that Evan would be talking about boring stuff but when he started talking and making us do funny things I started to pay more attention to him. Evan was talking about how to save some, spend some because the more we save the more we’ll want spend or give it to charity. I loved when Evan started talking about cat. He said that we have to keep cat in mind. What does cat mean Evan Pakii said?. Cat stands Clear, Action and Time. That is to keep you for not spending all your money and it’s good to draw a chart that keeps you motivated and making you to save when you get older. I learnt that being a money wise person might get me somewhere in life.
